Mary Ann has spent her life with horses using natural training techniques learned from the masters. Her son Justin has spent his entire life involved in the horse world. He began showing when he was 8 years old and from that point on knew his life would always revolve around horses. After college, Cal Poly, Pomona, CA & working with the Kellog Arabians there and other west coast ranches, Justin came east again to train & work horses here. Like many of the trainers whose names are in the news lately, Mary Ann & Justin use gentle techniques to train. They take a different approach to training by communicating with horses using the horse’s language instead of trying to make horses learn our language. They use the horses’ instincts of self-preservation and herding to develop a trusting relationship between human and horse. Once the horse develops that trust, everything else comes easy and the horse looks forward to furthering the bond. Mary Ann & Justin interact on their level, letting each horse tell them how far they are willing to go. The result is a horse with a quiet demeanor and a willingness to learn. They get results without stressing the horse! Riding students are taught to build on the horse/human relationship established by Mary Ann & Justin with their horse, one step at a time, using confidence-building exercises. Riders come to understand that horses learn to do whatever they are rewarded for. Riders’ goals of what they want to accomplish with their horses are broken into a series of small steps and worked through from a position of confident control. Thus, Mary Ann & Justin overcome the fears of shy riders and build a solid team of horse and rider. Once here, students can go on to any level of proficiency desired in their chosen discipline.
